Backcountry Road Traffic Safety Concerns Addressed

Over the the last three years, the Round Hill Association (RHA) under leadership of president Brendon DeSimone, has spent significant time and resources with town authorities on a growing concern of traffic safety on our local roads.  This has included a RHA funded study and analysis of local traffic by Don Tone of Dewberry Engineering presented to the First Selectmen’s Office and the Greenwich Department of Public Works (DPW). The focus has been the high speed and volume of out of town vehicles which use Porchuck Road between the Merritt Pkwy and Riversville Road as a cut through to Westchester County Airport, Brunswick and Sacred Heart schools, and the large corporate headquarters on upper King Street.

The result of several previous meetings with the RHA led to consideration of several options including speed bumps, flashing speed light, and rumble strips. Recently, the town submitted an application to the CT Department of Traffic (DOT) to reduce the speed limit on Porchuck from 25 to 20 MPH.  A positive response from Hartford was just received so the official speed limit will now become 20 MPH on Porchuck Road.
