Continuing a recent trend, the Glenville section of Greenwich had welcomed two new eateries that have just opened in the first week of April. Both locations in the Glenville Shopping Center are expansions of existing businesses that have served local customers for a decade or more. They are in the repurposed and renovated old post office building which now houses four separate food establishments. The Center’s revitalization will be completed in the future with the addition of a DeCicco & Sons grocery replacing the closed Stop & Shop.
GREEN & TONIC
This will be the 8th location of the popular and established health focused cafe in the surrounding area which was started in 2012. Greenwich residents may know it from a Cos Cob location on Strickland Road just off the Post Road, and there will also be a location opening soon in Old Greenwich on Sound Beach Avenue. The cafe has a menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner ranging from nutrient-dense smoothies, salads, prepared grab and go meals, soups, snacks, a variety of bowls, as well as hot and cold drinks. This includes special coffees from Colombia and dairy free soft serve ice creams. Customers may also customize their salad selections and meal boxes of multiple days for pick up. The priority of the business is to use ingredients from plants and now include organic chicken and pasture raised eggs. All food is gluten free.
The interior space is bright with ample seating and is open every day of the week starting at 8 AM. Catering is available along with gift cards. A phone number is not yet available on the company website.
LONGFORD’S ICE CREAM
This is the 4th retail scoop shop and the first in Connecticut, with a long-time Westchester County business started in 1992 in Port Chester, NY. It has grown from other locations in Rye, Armonk, and Larchmont. The Glenville location replaced Sweet Notes, a short-lived candy and ice cream store.
According to its website, Longford’s offers small batch handmade ice cream, gelato, sorbet, fat free soft serve, non-dairy vegan ice cream, ice cream cakes, and cookie trays, as well as quarts and pints. In total combined with its wholesale business, the brand makes 75 different flavors (the Glenville store will have 36). The brand was the number one ice cream in the Best of Westchester 2024 voting.
The store is currently open Tuesday through Sunday starting at 12 noon. The phone number is (203) 405- 4151.
