New Glenville Shopping Center Shops

The closing of the Stop & Shop and Post Office in Glenville was a loss for local retailers but the area is making a comeback.  The shopping center is expanding parking spaces, seeking a new grocery store, and the former Post Office building is reconfigured to welcome four new eateries. This spring saw Sweet Notes and Luca’s Pizza & Italian Kitchen open their doors for business, and Bluebird Taqueria and Green & Tonic are expected to follow at a later date.

Sweet Notes is owned and operated by Nicole Shalette and offers a variety of ice cream products and assorted candies in a welcoming environment created to inspire fun and enjoyment for customers and children of all ages.  The 20 ice cream flavors of Emack & Bolios, a premium brand found in Manhattan and limited places in the northeast, can be enjoyed in cones, cups, sundaes, milkshakes, and ice cream sandwiches. The most popular flavor is Toasted S’Moreo.  There are also non-dairy flavors and vegan sorbets as alternative options. Candies are available in single quantities or put together in artfully designed arrangements or “salads”.  On site events can be made to include birthday, karaoke, or fondue parties.  The shop, which has four tables inside, can be reached at (203) 405-4151 and is closed on Monday. It opens at 1:00 PM and closes at 8:00 PM Tuesday thru Thursday, 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 7:00 PM Sunday.

Luca’s Pizza & Italian Kitchen is next door to Sweet Notes and has family roots in the Pizza Post on the Post Road in Cos Cob.  The “kitchen” is family oriented, dog friendly at four outside tables, and does not serve alcohol but you can bring your own.  While pizza is a popular choice, this is an Italian restaurant with a full array of choices that makes its own dough, sauces, and ingredients. The menu includes small plates of chicken cutlets, mozzarella sticks, meatballs, garlic bread, and several vegetables. Entrees consist of chicken and eggplant parm, as well as six different Italian sandwiches, and six various pastas. There are also six tables inside the location, and catering is offered. Hours of operation are Tuesday to Thursday 11:00 AM-8:00 PM, Friday to Saturday 11:00 AM-8:00 PM, and Sunday 12:00- 8:00 PM, closed Monday. The phone number is (203) 202-8333.

Based on a recent midafternoon visit along with several customers, it appears both businesses are getting known in the area and establishing repeat customers.
