The sign outside says Finch’s Country Market and Deli, but the website name and the name more commonly used is Finch’s Country Store. The Finch name has been around for generations and is part of the rich history of the area. For as long as anyone can remember, the store has served the surrounding area of Banksville, NY, at the state line between Bedford and Greenwich. It is located across the street from the Ivan Lendl Tennis Center at the intersection where North Street in Greenwich turns into Bedford-Banksville Road. It is a free-standing store just north of and kitty-corner to The Banksville Shopping Center, which has multiple stores and attracts a strong following from backcountry Greenwich residents.
The store is essentially a deli-styled eatery owned by two brothers, Gazmen and Bekim Gjini, who alternate time behind the counter welcoming customers and overseeing the operation. A couple of years ago they renovated the interior of the building which has a deli counter, refrigerated cases of beverages, and four tables for eating. Outside in front of the building and under a covered porch are another four tables for enjoying a meal. A sign by the front door says it is a cash payment business with an ATM on the premises. There is ample parking next to the store or behind it.
The store is open six days a week (closed Sunday) for breakfast and lunch only, with a closing time of 4:30 PM. The menu consists of traditional American food and has an extensive list of familiar choices. For breakfast, there are egg dishes, French toast, hash browns, breakfast sandwiches, and bagels. For lunch, there are a variety of hot and cold sandwiches including burgers, fries, cutlets, Reuben, BLTs, wings, tenders, grilled cheese, and salads. Customers can take out or have delivery. The store also has selected baked goods and miscellaneous specialty foods on hand at the counter. With warmer weather, ice cream products will be added.
Finch’s Country Store can be reached at (914) 205-3699 and is located at 4 Bedford-Banksville Road in Banksville, NY, Do not confuse it with The Banksville Market and Wine Store a few hundred yards further up the road.
