Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company (“RHVFC”) and its volunteer firefighters will host its first-ever “Family Fun Day” to celebrate children and families of the backcountry and all of Greenwich. The event will take place on Saturday, April 6th from 1-5 pm at Whitby School in Greenwich. A rain date of Sunday, April 7th has been established.
Tickets are available for pre-sale at www.roundhillfire.org. All proceeds benefit Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations to RHVFC are fully tax-deductible.
The “Family Fun Day” event is open to children and families of all ages and will feature a Fire Station Bounce House, an inflatable Fire Truck Obstacle Course, Carnival Games, Sports Games (Double Shot Basketball, First Down Football Toss, Soccer Challenge Score-A-Goal), a 9-Hole Mini-Golf Course, as well as Round Hill Fire and GEMS Touch-A-Truck, Balloon Artist, Face Painter, and Arts & Crafts. RHVFC volunteer firefighters will also conduct Fire Safety Demonstrations and Scout, RHVFC’s fire dog, will also be at the event.
Three Food Trucks and an RHVFC Bake Sale will be on hand to provide food options.
Family Fun Day Chairperson and RHVFC volunteer firefighter Stephanie Leone-Kim said “After the great success of our Oktoberfest event, we wanted to establish an annual event in the Spring for children and families. For 75 years, Round Hill Volunteer Fire has been all about our community and we wanted to offer something for everyone.” Co-chair Louise Oram-Cho added, “as a backcountry resident, we have long been thankful for RHVFC’s support of our community. They are our local firehouse. I and the other members of our event committee – Silvia Cruz-Pierce, Sara Lipman, Katerina Pergola, Molly Schiff, and Margaret Stevens O’Keefe, are excited to partner with Round Hill to bring this event to the Greenwich backcountry. We hope families from all over Greenwich and our surrounding communities come join us.”
RHVFC Volunteer District Chief Sharon Strain grew up at the RHVFC firehouse and has been a part of nearly 30 years of Round Hill community events. “Family Fun Day presents a new opportunity to connect with our community, raise awareness of our volunteer status, meet new neighbors, and perhaps even find a few new members to join us to protect the backcountry and all of Greenwich. It’s going to be a fun day for sure!”
Celebrating 75 Years Serving the Greenwich Backcountry
For the last 75 years, the volunteer firefighters of RHVFC have provided first-response emergency services, protecting life and property, in the Greenwich backcountry. In that time, our members have responded to more than 10,000 incidents, ranging from traffic accidents and downed power lines to hazardous material spills and fully involved-structure fires. Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company is the only all-volunteer fire company in Greenwich.
Today, RHVFC’s members continue to serve the backcountry, working hand-in-hand with Town career firefighters, not only in the Round Hill fire district but also throughout greater Greenwich when additional resources or apparatus is needed. RHVFC responds to an average of 300-400 emergency calls per year.
RHVFC is an independent volunteer fire company that is affiliated with, but only partially funded by, the Town of Greenwich. Each year its members must raise more than $50,000 to fund its annual operating expenses. Round Hill’s volunteers rely on the community’s support so they can better serve you, your family, and your neighbors.
